What the card shows

A young rider sits a white horse wading slowly through a shallow stream between rocks. He wears a wide indigo hat trimmed with a white feather, an indigo robe with pale wave patterns and a vermilion undergarment, and holds a red lacquer cup out before him with a steady hand. The horse wears a red harness with tassels. Green hills, pines and a far shore lie behind.

In Rider–Waite–Smith tarot the Knight of Cups rides a calm white horse, holding out a cup as if offering it, his helmet and heels winged. He is the romantic and the dreamer: the knight who acts from feeling. His slow pace sets him apart from the other knights. The stream he crosses is the water of the suit, emotion he moves through gently rather than charging.

Knight of Cups in love

Romance, a proposal, a declaration. Sincere and tender. Check that the feeling has feet as well as wings.

Knight of Cups in work

A creative offer, an invitation, a project led by passion. Follow it, and keep one eye on the practical.

As advice

Make the offer you have been composing in your head: the message, the invitation, the gift. Make it sincerely and simply.

Knight of Cups: yes or no

Yes

An offer arrives with sincere feeling; the card leans yes, especially in love.

A question to keep

What would you offer if you followed your heart rather than your caution?
