Two of Pentacles

balance · adaptability · juggling

Dancing on one foot while the waves toss both boats.

Upright meaning

Keeping two things in the air with a light step. Balance is not stillness, it is rhythm. Keep the beat, and know when to set one down.

balance · adaptability · juggling · priorities

Reversed meaning

Too much in the air and the ribbon tangles. Overcommitment, money stretched thin. Put one down on purpose before one falls.

overcommitment · disorganisation · imbalance · dropped balls

What the card shows

A young street performer in a green robe with a white pattern, red trousers and a red headband dances on one foot on a rocky shore, smiling. Each raised hand keeps a bronze disc in the air, and a long red ribbon loops between them in a figure of eight. Behind, the sea rises in tall curling waves tipped with white foam, and two square-sailed boats ride high on them. A small pine grows on the rocks.

In Rider–Waite–Smith tarot the Two of Pentacles shows a young man juggling two pentacles in a loop of ribbon shaped like the sign for infinity, ships riding the waves behind. It is balance in motion: handling money, time and duties with a light step. The waves show that the ground is always shifting; the dance shows that it can be met.

Two of Pentacles in love

Making room for love in a busy life. Keep it playful, and make sure it is not always the thing that waits.

Two of Pentacles in work

Two jobs, two deadlines, money moving between them. Keep a clear list and a sense of humour.

As advice

Write down everything you are currently holding. Choose one thing to put down, hand over or delay, and tell whoever it affects.

Two of Pentacles: yes or no

Not yet clear

It can work if the balance holds; the answer depends on what else is in the air.

A question to keep

What are you juggling that you could set down for a week?
