What the card shows

A hand reaches out of a white cloud, palm up, and on it rests a large bronze disc cut with a five-pointed star, rays spreading behind it. Below, a stepping-stone path runs between banks of tall white lilies to an arch of clipped, flowering hedge. Through the arch there is a glimpse of the sea, and beyond it rise blue mountains, pines and dark cypresses.

In Rider–Waite–Smith tarot the Ace of Pentacles shows a hand from a cloud holding a pentacle over a garden of lilies, with a hedge arch opening onto distant mountains. It is the seed of the earth suit: money, work, health, home, anything solid. The garden is the place where it can grow, and the arch is the way out into the wider world once it has taken root.
