Knight of Swords
drive · speed · ambition
A white horse at full gallop, the pines bent by the gale.
Upright meaning
Fast, bold, all in. A mind that has decided and charges ahead. The speed is a gift when the aim is right and a hazard when it is not.
drive · speed · ambition · directness
Reversed meaning
Rushing without a plan, harsh words, or the sudden stall after too much haste. Rein in, and ask where the road actually goes.
recklessness · haste · harsh words · scattered energy
What the card shows
A young rider in dark lacquered armour and a flying red cloak gallops a white horse across a grassy slope, sword raised high above his head. His hair streams back and his face is set. The horse's mane and tail blow out, and its harness is red with heavy tassels. Behind him the pines lean hard in the wind, and clouds race across the indigo sky.
In Rider–Waite–Smith tarot the Knight of Swords charges on a white horse against a sky of wind-torn clouds and bent trees. He is air at full speed: ambition, courage, a mind that has made itself up. The same wind that carries him can carry him too far. The card asks for his directness without his recklessness.
Knight of Swords in love
Intense and direct, sometimes too quick. Say what you feel, then leave room for the other person to answer.
Knight of Swords in work
Push hard for a goal you believe in, but check your facts and your tone before you ride in.
As advice
Act on the idea you are sure of today, but before you send it, read it through once more for tone.
Knight of Swords: yes or no
Yes
The way is open to decisive action; the card leans yes, if you move with a clear aim.
A question to keep
Where are you charging ahead when a slower pace would carry you further?
