What the card shows
A bearded lord in a small gold crown shaped like a flame sits on a throne whose arms are carved as snarling tigers, with salamanders carved on the sides. His vermilion robe bears a round sun on the chest and rising flames along the hem. He grips a tall bamboo pole with leaves at the top, and a red salamander crawls on the ground beside him. A red sun sets behind pines and blue mountains.
In Rider–Waite–Smith tarot the King of Wands holds a budding staff, his throne and cloak marked with lions and salamanders, and a small salamander at his feet. The salamander, once believed to live unharmed in fire, is the sign of the suit's element. As king of fire he is vision made into action: the one who sets the direction and brings others with him.
King of Wands in love
A partner with drive and big plans. Passionate and protective; make sure there is room for both of you in the vision.
King of Wands in work
Leadership, entrepreneurship, a long view. Set the direction, make the call, and trust others to carry their share.
As advice
Decide the direction and announce it. Then hand the next steps to people you trust, and hold the long view.
