The Tower

upheaval · revelation · sudden change

The roof of the watchtower flies off into the rain.

Upright meaning

Sudden change that breaks what was not built to last. It comes like a storm off the sea, and afterwards the air is clearer. What falls was already weak.

upheaval · revelation · sudden change · release · awakening

Reversed meaning

An upheaval delayed, or a collapse taking place quietly inside. The storm is gathering and you feel the pressure. Secure what matters and let the rest come down.

averted disaster · slow collapse · denial · resisting change

What the card shows

A tall wooden watchtower stands on a rocky headland above a storm-tossed sea. A white bolt of lightning strikes it from dark clouds; the roof tears away and flies apart in splinters, and orange flames burst from the top. Two small figures, one in grey and one in red, fall headlong from the tower toward the waves. Rain slants across the whole scene in fine lines.

In Rider–Waite–Smith tarot lightning strikes a stone tower on a crag, knocking off its crown as two people fall: sudden change, revelation and the collapse of what was built on false ground. The lightning is truth arriving all at once. A watchtower is built to keep guard, like a belief or a plan made for safety that could not stand the weather. The sea below receives the fall, and after the Tower comes the Star.

The Tower in love

A sudden truth shakes the bond. It is hard, and it clears the air. What stands afterwards stands honestly.

The Tower in work

Plans upended or a structure shaken. Stay calm, secure what matters, and rebuild on sounder ground.

As advice

Look at the plan or belief that feels shaky. Decide now what you would save if it fell, and secure that first.

The Tower: yes or no

No

The structure in question is unstable; the answer leans no until it has been rebuilt on firmer ground.

A question to keep

What in your life was built on ground that could not hold?
