The Magician
skill · willpower · resourcefulness
Pole to the sky, finger to the table, smoke in a loop.
Upright meaning
Everything needed is already on the table. Skill, will and the right tools meet in one pair of hands, and the work can begin. Name what you want and set your hand to it.
skill · willpower · resourcefulness · focus · manifestation
Reversed meaning
Talent left idle, or skill turned to tricks. The tools are there but scattered, or used to impress rather than to make. Check whether the aim is honest and the hands are steady.

What the card shows
A young man with his hair tied up stands behind a low wooden table in an indigo robe and a flowing vermilion coat. His right hand lifts a bamboo pole toward the sky; his left points down to the table, where a red lacquer cup, a short blade and a bronze disc marked with a five-pointed star lie ready. Smoke curls above his head in a loop like a figure of eight. Behind him a red sun sinks over misty hills and a waterfall, and blue irises and red camellias grow at his feet.
In Rider–Waite–Smith tarot the Magician holds a wand up and points down, drawing power from above into the world below. The four objects on his table are the four suits, wands, cups, swords and pentacles: the whole deck within reach. The loop overhead is the sign of the infinite, and the flowers are what grows from work well begun.
The Magician in love
Clear intention in a bond. Say what you want plainly and act to match it. Be wary of charm that promises more than it does.
The Magician in work
A good moment to start, pitch or build. The resources are in reach. Choose one piece of work and bring every skill you have to it.
As advice
Lay out what you already have: skills, people who would help, hours in the week. Choose one aim and use every one of them on it before looking for anything new.
The Magician: yes or no
Yes
The tools and the skill are both present; what is asked for is within reach of a focused hand.
A question to keep
