Judgement
awakening · calling · renewal
A long red horn sounds over the misty lake at dawn.
Upright meaning
A call to rise. Something in you is ready to wake, to review the past honestly and step into a new chapter. Answer the call, and leave behind what no longer belongs.
awakening · calling · renewal · reckoning · rebirth
Reversed meaning
The call ignored, or harsh self-judgement. Fear of the past keeps you sitting in the boat. Forgive what can be forgiven, and stand up anyway.
self-doubt · ignored calling · harsh judgement · stuck in the past
What the card shows
A winged figure with red and indigo feathers and trailing green scarves leans from a bank of clouds, blowing a long red horn, and rays of light fall from the clouds below. A red sun rises behind snow-capped mountains and dark pines, and a misty lake spreads out at dawn. In three small open boats stand a man, a child and a woman, their arms raised toward the sound.
In Rider–Waite–Smith tarot an angel blows a trumpet over figures rising from open coffins on the water, arms lifted: awakening, the call to account and rebirth. The horn is the call that cannot be ignored, and the rising figures are the parts of us that answer it. Here the coffins become small boats, vessels that can carry the travellers onward, and the dawn over the lake shows a new day beginning.
Judgement in love
A reckoning or renewal in the bond. Old patterns come to light, and there is a chance to begin again more honestly.
Judgement in work
A calling, a major decision or a review of your path. Look back clearly, then choose the work that feels true.
As advice
Look back over the past year honestly, the good and the painful. Write down one thing to forgive and one thing you are ready to begin.
Judgement: yes or no
Yes
A clear call is sounding; the answer leans yes for those willing to rise to it.
A question to keep
What is calling you that you have been pretending not to hear?
